Who Cares About Executive Presence?

If you’ve spent time in talent calibration discussions, or succession planning exercises, you've likely heard the term tossed around to describe who has it and who doesn't.

Maybe you've been told personally that you didn’t get the promotion because you need to develop more Executive Presence, but you can't get a clear answer on what that means exactly.

Let's Dispense With the Myth

Executive presence is something everyone in corporate management talks about, but few can confidently define.  The definitions are either too vague, like “charisma,” or they’re too shallow, like how people dress and how they talk.

In reality, Executive Presence can be clearly defined and is simple to develop.  But simple doesn't mean easy, so having a clear definition and an actionable path toward growing your Executive Presence can be transformational.

Less Stress, Bigger Impact

Why would you want to develop Executive Presence?

The answer is simple:  to make a bigger personal impact in your job (and career, and life!) while experiencing less stress along the way.

Let's face it, being a corporate executive is stressful and the demands on you personally are significant.  You're expected to juggle competing priorities, deliver meaningful outcomes, and lead people in a way that doesn't get you in trouble.  And you’re expected to do it all with a positive attitude, never letting them see you sweat.

The pay is nice, but sometimes the job is difficult to love.

It seems like the harder you try to meet everyone's expectations, the more the stress mounts, and the more difficult it gets to enjoy the job.

There is a better way, and it has nothing to do with working harder, or longer hours.  And it has very little to do with your position, or how polished you look and sound.
